What is the Opensim?
Opensim is the open-source re-implementation of the Secondlife Protocol. It is the server software that provides the basis for a number of Virtual Worlds.
What is "Open Source" ?
Open Source refers to content (originally source code, now may refer to 3d content, writings, music -pretty much anything) which has been publically released under a license that allows for people to use, modify and share with others.
What is a "Region"? What's a "Grid"?
A region is a shared and persistent 3D virtual area, usually 256x256 square meters (though may be larger) where folks can meet. It may contain objects of different kinds, wether multimedia (audio or other streams) or 3D objects.
A Grid is simply a collection of Regions which all are connected to the same Robust and/or Asset server.
What is the Hypergrid?
The Hypergrid is a protocol for different grids to communicate with one another; so that they are able to exchange messages and content and have their users interact with one another.
What is Copybot?
Copytbotting is unauthorized ripping of content from one virtual or computer game and using it somewhere else. There is a lot of that going on in all virtual realities, including the Hypergrid. In addition to the obvious copyright issues, extensive copybotting may also cause serious performance problems. Good content is always optimized for one specific environment and isn't likely to perform well in another.)
